I had never used these strings before I got my new Taylor 114CE guitar. Had the guitar setup and the technician recommended these Ernie Ball Earthwood strings because of the sound and the type of playing I told him I did. After the initial setup with the new strings I played for about 2 weeks and had noticeable tuning issues with the G but didn't think a whole lot about it. I brought the guitar back to the shop to get the action lowered. He replaced the strings with another pair of these Ernie Ball Earthwood strings. After about 3 more weeks of playing I finally realized this out-of-tune G string issue was getting out of control. I did some reading and realized others have experienced the same issue with these strings. The G is not a wound string so it always seems to sound a little "off" even when in tune. I would tune my guitar, play for about a minute and then re-check my tuning again. Not once did the G stay in tune...all the other strings were perfect. For the sake of experimentation, I replaced only the G string with an alternate string I had lying around and have no tuning issues whatsoever anymore. When the strings are in tune, they sound awesome. But constant tuning isn't an option when trying to play live. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Ernie Ball 2008 Earthwood Rock and Blues 80/20 Bronze Acoustic String Set with plain G (10 - 52)" are high quality item.
