I used the red Jazz III's for years on my 335 electric and also liked the thinner black jazz picks on my Gibson acoustic. I found these Ultex picks two years ago. This is the sound I was trying to achieve all along. For my ears, the red ones can bite, but can tend to sound "brittle." The Ultex, however, provides a spectrum of sounds--like fingernails when playing a fingerpicking style...they dig in well for rock and blues...and are probably best at achieving a pleasing, clear, clean pop-jazz sound. I gave three to a student who was using the red ones and he said, "Ever since you gave me these gold ones I can't go back to the red." This was the same for me. Happy playing! I am here buying another 2 dozen since I lose and give a lot of these out.
