Before buying my Squier, I knew I was going to replace the tuners. It was just a question of what to buy. These Fender tuners are a bargain. Fender OEM tuners were the right compromise between quality and price for my new Squier (Standard Stratocaster Rosewood, Antique Burst).

Yes, drilling is required, which is something I had hoped to avoid. Both tuners have the same shaft size (10 mm?), so there are no “major” issues. However, the backside of the Fender tuners is slightly larger than Squier’s. Instead of the common setscrew setup, both types of tuners have two, short, 3/32 inch diameter pins. The Fender pins are a little farther from the shaft. Therefore, another pair of holes is required for each tuner.

The distance between the old and new holes is very small. You’ll need a “sharp” drill bit and a steady hand to keep the drill from slipping into the old hole, thereby creating a notch instead of two separate holes. If this happens, I suggest using a fast curing, two-part, wood epoxy to fill the notch, then re-drill, maybe start with a smaller pilot hole.

These Fender tuners worked fine for me and my Squier. It just took some effort.

Oh, by the way. These are “staggered’ tuners, meaning the shafts have different lengths. They are marked with Roman numbers. The set here comes with (from longest to shortest): one VI, one V, two III, and two II.
