After having used a Peterson VS-1 original strobe tuner for forever, I realized that it was getting harder and harder to read the small LCD display. That unit had been a workhorse and quite reliable. Recently I dropped it and it started having trouble detecting the B and E strings. I had purchased the Peterson Strobosoft app for my iPod Touch and was quite happy with that but it didn't offer any of the "sweetened tunings" for guitar. If any of you are too cheap to buy the StrobPlus, stop here and go get the Strobsoft app for your iPhone/iPad. I digress, anyway, did a little research and found people were giving this StroboPlus a pretty good reviews.

$120.00 seems high for a tuner but those familiar with Peterson products know it will probably worth it. I was not disappointed. First the screen is very, very, easy to read even in bright light. The old VS-1 was almost unusable sometimes from glare off its screen. Instead of the traditional Peterson vertical scrolling block-pattern strobe, the StroboPlus has a half-circle back-lit orange screen with only two sets of strobe blocks. The rotate either clockwise or counter-clockwise on the edge of a semi-circular display face and is much easier to interpret versus the older format. If you wear glasses, you'll appreciate this.

This tuner reads info really quickly and accurately. If you work on guitars especially if you do set-ups, this is your only choice. It charges its Lithium-Ion battery via a USB cable that plugs into your computer. No more hand fulls of AA batteries.

You register on-line and on their website, you can load all sorts of specialized tunings, sweetened tunings, and even your own custom tunings. When loaded into the StroboPlus, with the press of a button and the turn of a wheel, you now have access to your saved tunings. There's a tone generator as well which is a nice touch. There's also pay to download additions programs like their BodyBeat metronome feature.

This is probably the best and most accurate tuner I have ever owned and that includes various Boss, Intellitouch, Sabine, Korg, and various miscellaneous units. It finds the note faster and with more accuracy than anything I've ever used. The only thing that is even in the same ballpark is the the Peterson Strobosoft app.

The original Peterson VS-1 was the size of a brick, the StroboPlus with its almost square shape reminds me of a clock radio or a really big sandwich. It has "ruberized" antishock material wrapped around most of its perimiter. There's a very sturdy stand on the back that folds out and makes the unit quite stable on any flat surface. It's sturdy and well built, logically designed, easy to use and is so much better than what's currently out in the market. I've know there's a following for the tuners that have the rotating led lights but when you work on guitars and do a lot of setups, those flashing led's will probably fatigue your eyes or give you a grand mal seizure, take your pick.

The StoboPlus website page is easy to navigate and for those in the audience that have issues with with the ability to read instructions, there's even a very well done user video. The StroboPlus is NOT a stomp box and really has no place on a pedal board. They have a metal case version for that. If you do any kind of guitar or stringed instrument work, you need this. I've seen a lot of tuners come and go over the years and this is by far the best. It even comes in a very nice box with magnetic closure, closed cell foam interior, and a slot to store the USB cable.
