4pcs R Vintage Open Bass Tuners Machine Heads Knobs Chrome Review

I was pleasantly surprised after using this to fix 2 broken tuning pegs (keys or tuners if you want to call it that) on my Fender J Bass Squier

The keys look almost identical to the original keys. See attached photo. The 2 keys in the middle are the ones I swapped out and the other ones are the original Fender ones.

You would have to be looking for a difference to even notice the slight difference between them.

They dont seem to turn as easily as the original Fender ones but they work fine and up to now seem to hold tune very well (But it has only been one day so I will update if this changes)

I was worried at first because the 4 little screw holes on the back did not line up exactly but when I used the same Fender screws from the broken tuning pegs it went in just fine and so far, so good.

Some people say they have to drill out a bigger hole but this was not the case at least for the J bass, it was the same size and I left the original top washer or whatever you call it in there since it would have required some special tool to remove the Fender ones and no sense to add more work to the job.

But what is nice about this kit is that it includes all the little screws and every other part you would need so that is very convenient. But I recommend use as many of the original Fender parts as you can so that everything matches up.

I could have changed out the other 2 tuning pegs but I did not find it necessary to do so if the originals are still in working order.

FYI: I needed a pair of vice grips with needle nose tip to get the old, busted tuning pegs out because the head had broken off. First I used the vice grips (or you could use a normal pair of needle nose pliers if you have strength) to turn the stem counter clockwise and when the string has very little tension I just cut the strings and removed them. After that I flipped the bass over and removed the large screw which connects the front of the tuning peg to the back and then removed the 4 little baby screws and that was all. Pretty easy repair and no need to take it to the Music Shop where they may charge you $40 for this repair that took about 20 minutes to perform.

EDIT: Looks to be the same size as well as the pegs on my Epiphone EB-0 bass. Good News! Epiphone EB0
