My brother has played guitar since 1970 and someone was always borrowing and not returning his Fender straps. He recently told me he wished he still had one of the straps that came with his Fender guitars. I saw these on Amazon and bought one for him for Christmas. He was delighted with this official Fender strap and said it looked just line the ones he "loaned" out over the years. His Fender strap has finally come home.

DR Strings NGB-45 Coated Nickel Bass Guitar Strings, Medium Review

these strings look really, really cool. so i ordered 2 sets on amazon from 2 different retailers. i got a green set for a green bass, put em on, they sounded great. put the orange set on a black bass, again super cool looking. the A string from the orange set was dead right out of the pack.the other 3 strings were fine but the A was a clunker. called DR they sent a new one. used the other bass at rehearsal and the E string snapped at the bridge. not likely that the strings were from the same batch, since they came from totally different sources. i'm afraid i cant recommend this product, sorry DR, going back to rotosound.

Line 6 FBV Express MkII 4-button Foot Controller Review

The Line 6 FBV Express MkII Foot Controller works great with my Line 6 Spider amp. I never fully utilized all of the features of the amplifier until I got the foot controller. Having to reach down and change settings on the amp by hand is awkward and interrupts the music. The foot controlled access to four pre-sets, the tuner, and volume is fantastic. I really like the wah pedal as well.

The only difficulty I had was updating the firmware (Flash Memory). The calibration procedure suggested in the manual wasn't available until the firmware was updated. When I plugged the foot controller into my computer (Windows 7 64-bit OS) to update the firmware, Windows 7 wouldn't install the necessary USB driver automatically and there was no way to manually install a driver. I'm not sure if this is a Windows 7 compatibility problem or if there's something unusual about my particular computer. I got around the USB driver problem by using XP mode (available in Windows 7 Professional).
In XP mode the USB driver installed automatically and the Line 6 Monkey update utility worked as advertized.

Once the newer firmware was installed the calibration procedure went smoothly. Honestly, the FBV MKII foot controller seemed to work well right out of the box without calibration and I'm not sure if updating the firmware and calibrating it was absolutely necessary.

Since getting the FBV Express MkII I can't imagine playing without it.

MXR M116 Fullbore Metal Distortion Pedal Review

I have been looking for "the sound" that fits me for a long time. I have had many guitars, almost as many amps and a myriad of effects. From pedals to headphone amps to multi effects processors to amps with modeling capabilities, nothing ever grabbed me. Some came closer than others, but never hitting the mark. So when I read an article about the stage rig of a long time hero of mine, and found out he used an old MXR distortion+, I did a little research. A quick you tube search revealed a monster called the Fullbore Metal distortion pedal. It only took a few videos before the seed was planted. After a week of thinking, and stewing, I bit the bullet and ordered it (with the ac adapter). When I first hooked it up, I was pretty happy. Twisting knobs and rattling the windows. Of course, being a guy, I read the booklet a day or two later and discovered the factory recommended settings. What the heck, dialed in the half stack setting (I have a Marshall MGHDFX 100 half stack) and let it rip.....And there it was....THE sound I have been searching for. I tried every guitar I have (2 Jacksons, a Dean From Hell, and an old Flying V) and they all ripped. Active EMG's, semi active Seymour Duncan's and passive pickups all sounded meaner, heavier, razor sharp and roaring. I think my heart skipped a beat when I heard the low end this pedal produces. A guitar strap pin is - a strap pin right? Well yes, however if you've been around older instruments and had the violin type decide to leave at an inopportune moment, well you are aware of what can go wrong.

The Elliptical End Pins takes instrument security to a different level. As the name of the product indicates, this is not a round end pin, but egg shaped. It is meant to be installed with the points of the ellipsis at 90 degrees to the strap hole. This "locks" it on the strap and gives it security ... it works. It can be difficult if you want to remove the strap on a regular basis but ... it is secure. And the black ones - well it just modified a few of my instruments with a bit of stealth bling. (Can such a thing exist?)

One other thing not readily mentioned in the posting of the product. Big Bends Nut Sauce Review

At first glance I thought it would be stupid (Tuning lubricant? Really?) but it works great. Obviously if your tuners or bridge is messed up, it's not gonna magically correct that, but this lubricant really does help keep you in tune longer. After purchasing my Fender SCXD at the local "Mega Music Store", I made it clear to the sales guy that I wanted the cover for it 'cause I take good care of my gear. He was happy to sell me the amp and take my $300 bucks but provided no further assistance in acquiring the cover even after several phone calls and with me providing Fenders recommended part #. Turns out, through my internet research, that the cover called for the SCXD was too tight, hence my purchase of the Blues Jr. cover. OK, it's a little loose but I'd rather have that than struggle every time I pull it off and put it back on. I've already been through that with my Carvin acoustic amp... BIG HASSLE! So I'm happy with Amazon and their supplier. It came relatively quick, slightly over-packed (I mean how much packing material do you need for an amp cover inside a box?). The cat loves laying on all that paper. Anyway, long story short, the cover does what it's supposed to: KEEP THE DUST OFF. I like that and the Fender Logo.

I purchased these strings after working through three sets of the industry standard D'Addario EJ45 Pro-Arte Normal Tension strings, so I will try to compare the two. I got the D'Addario initially because they are cheap, and most people like them. However, they were not making the sound I wanted on my guitar (a very cheap Lucida LG-520). The sound with the D'Addarios was hollow and dull - probably due to my guitar, but D'Addarios were not helping it any. Since I am not yet at the level to buy a $600 guitar, I decided to try these strings due to reviewers indicating an increased brightness.

These strings really did make a difference for my cheap guitar.

The trebles are clear nylon and seem a little bit thinner than D'Addarios. The tone is bright, clean and very clear. Even the G-string which normally sounds very dull has increased brightness and clarity. The bases also sound great. They sound brighter and more metallic than the D'Addarios.

Overall, these are expensive strings, but for me they are worth it in terms of the sound they produce. If they last 3 months, I think it would be money well spent. After that, I will probably try the D'Addario EJ45C Pro-Arte Composite ($5 cheaper, and also great reviews).
