I have used this tuner for several years and have much appreciated its simplicity. With previous electric tuners, I found it very difficult to tune in a crowded or noisy environment. The microphone would pick up other noises and would be confused.

This tuner, though, clips onto the guitar (or fiddle or mandolin or whatever) and picks up vibrations through the wood. Thus, surrounding noises don't interfere with tuning.

Other nice features of the tuner are that it is quite compact, the battery seems to last a long time (I haven't changed it in two years of use), and the little clip swivels so you can see the LCD display from various angles.

On the whole, I have been quite happy with this little tuner.

Player's Kit Guitar Polish and Scratch Remover by Eternashine Review

I've used this product on several occasions. It has run the range of extremely impressive results on some guitars to just ok results on others. If you've got dull spots and light scratches you can expect those are going to come out just about every time ending with shiny surface. Anything deep or even moderately deep it just doesn't do much with. The instructions are detailed and probably accurate because it says not every scratch will come out. You'll find on some scratches and guitars you're going to spend some time rubbing, and the more effort you put in the better the results. Yet those on the deeper side don't expect miracles as those might be there for good. I'm not quite sure why but on some guitars a scratch comes out right away and what appears to be a similar scratch on another guitar requires alot more rubbing and work.
One good thing I can say is this product definitely does do more for scratches than the usual guitar polishes I have used which have done nothing but clean. What attracted me to the product in their FAQs was it was safe with no harsh chemicals and the fact I could do it all by hand. Just don't buy thinking its going to take out every scratch, and be prepared to spend a little time using it.

Also would like to see an additional towel included in the kit. If you're working on more than one guitar you'll really need more towels. Bought on Amazon with fast shipping.

DigiTech RP55 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor Review

I've been through 2 of these and really liked them...until they both died.

This pedal is very easy to use and manipulate and the effects are really cool. #'s 21, 9, & 48 were my favorites, but you can get just about any sound or combination of sounds from this thing and it's a lot of fun both in practice and on stage.

But, here's the problem...they don't last long.

The first time mine died on me was during a pre-gig soundcheck. It just completely died.

So, figuring it was just an anomoly and the fact that I really liked it, I bought another one. This second one lasted about 10 months. It didn't die, but all of the sudden out of the blue all the settings and effects changed. It sounded tinny, then muffled, then too loud, then too soft. I tried to re-set it the way the users manual tells you...but it didn't work.

This time I'll try a different kind and see if can last oh, maybe a year!

This thing is really great, but...like most of my romantic endeavors, they don't last.

Farley's 20001 Journeyman Guitar Tools Review

I bought this tool because all of my Jackson guitars have Floyd Rose bridges, so I needed a tool with the right size allen wrenches. When I first got this tool I thought it was great, because it has the wire cutters for the strings, allen wrenches for locking nuts, phillips screwdriver, etc.

The only complaints I have were the price and the design.

I think the price was kind of steep for what you get. It's a decent quality, but not $20 good. If it was made in Germany or Japan, I would gladly pay the price.

The design can easily scratch your guitar. For example, if your tightening strings on a floating bridge, you can easily scratch your guitar surface when screwing the locking nuts in.

I still think it deserves 5 stars though. Its nice to have an all-in-one guitar for gigs.

Great bag, well put together. I don't see having any issues with it down the road. Plenty of padding for a gigbag. Its not thin like the cheap $10 bags or the free ones you get it kits. I'd say there's at least 1/2 to 3/4 inch padding on each side. Its a nice bag and I wouldn't hesitate buying another. It fits my Rogue electric bass. and my Squire electric bass.

I play bass with my church's praise team. This is in my case all the time. It's great for a quick cleaning, and can easily get to places that would otherwise be difficult to access. I really like it, and I would very much recommend it. It's a good size to fit in a case compartment, or a pocket of a gig bag. It has held up well so far (I've had it about 9 months,) and it's cheap enough to replace should it wear out. I feel it is a good value for the price. Hope this helps.

Fender Accessories 073-3150-403 Pure Nickel Electric Guitar Strings, Light Review

I have tried many types of guitar strings out there and have been playing for close to 30 years.

In general, your best strings are going to be the Nickel Wound (Slinky's or D'Addarios). These are steel core strings, with a nickel plating over them, and give the best tone, while somewhat protecting your frets with the nickel plating. They do not last very long at all. Depending on how much you play, I would say a week tops for a practicing bedroom guitarist who plays a few hours every day. Pro's will change these out every 1, 2, or 3 nights as a gigging musician. So when you see some discoloration on them, you are already too late in changing them out.

What you are seeing is the oxidation/rust process from the sweat from your hands interact with the steel core of the string. The sweat from your hands interacts with nickel plating differently. I don't believe it is chemical in this case. Nickel is soft, it "wears away" and notice your frets are made of Nickel as well, and you never see this kind of chemical reaction with the frets of your instrument (assuming is has Nickel frets, as most guitars do). So this discoloration in the strings, means the Nickel plating has completely wore off in some of those areas where you see the discoloration. So this nickel plating, I would guess it is on the order of microns thin.

When you put a fresh pair of these types of strings on, we all know what happens, you will get a dark gray, almost lead-ish color on your fingers. This is the actual nickel plating being transferred to your fingers. After short while, it slows down and this doesn't happen as much, and you can guess what this means.

So, now with this background I can tell you that the pure Nickel strings will constantly leave you with that chalky dark gray matter on your fingers. It doesn't go away, and the strings do not corrode at all. While a simple washing of the hands afterword is no big deal, they also don't create a dirty fingerboard either. For whatever reason, the fingerboard does not retain this nickel and doesn't get as dirty or gross looking as it can when playing with steel based strings. This is kind of backwards, as your hands get dirty, but the rest of the instrument does not since there is no oxidizing happening.

Tone wise, these strings are not as bright or brilliant as steel core strings. Nothing can be done about it, as it is just the physics of the material. Bending notes I think is somewhat easier with these types of strings. Longevity is so excellent, it is completely unmatched with anything else out there.

I have been using these on an Ash Strat (American Dlx) which is a bright instrument, and so this combination works very well. I don't know if these strings would be a good candidate on a Les Paul or guitar with darker sounding hum buckers, and I haven't tried this yet, but may just to see if my assumptions are correct.

The bullet ends are perfect for a stat, and designed for it, and sustain is excellent. In a brighter strat, I think these are unmatched as far as versatility, longevity, and also tone. I don't mean to imply that they sound bad, they don't, but do lack some of that fresh steel core nickel wrapped brilliance that we all know we get for a few days with the other strings.

The other reviewer is also correct, in that these strings should only cause minimal fret wear.

So in conclusion, I like using this on my brighter strat, but really to get the best 4-5 hour tone, stick with the nickel wound steel core strings, just realize you are going to have to change strings often. With these strings, you can leave them on a guitar for months without the hassle, but giving up in return a small amount of new string brilliance feel if that makes sense.

Planet Waves Circuit Breaker Instrument Cable, Right-Angle, 10 feet Review

Although pricey, I find this a very low-noise, high quality cable. I like the break switch on the right angle connector, but the jury is still out on the durability of the switch There are two things that keep this cable from getting five starts.

1. The connectors are HUGE, and silvery-gray. I guess that makes it distinguishable ion the bottom of the bag though. I have one guitar with a recessed/angled cord jack, and this cable is too big to fit into it properly.

2. The cable itself is somewhat stiff. It's probably because it has better shielding properties, but it's more difficult to coil than my other Planet Waves cables.

Guardian Cases CG-020-MA Mandolin Case Review

I was pleasantly surprised to find that this was one nice mandolin case. For the price, I expected a rather flimsy chip board-type case. Man was I wrong! This case is quite substantial, providing ample protection for my mandolin. The inside is luxuriously plush, complete with a compartment for picks, tuning pipe, etc. The external hardware is high quality and the overall construction is top-notch. This case is way nicer than the plastic-shelled hard case I have for my violin. I suspect it is at least as good or better than some of the other more expensive mandolin cases out there. I was especially glad that it lacked the strong glue smell present in the SKB hard case I bought for my wife's guitar. We have had that case for a year and it still smells.
