Fender '62 Reissue Stratocaster Tremolo Bridge Review

I purchased this to replace the soft-metal cast bridge in my '72 Fender Strat (that I have owned for 38yrs) as it developed string scores in the saddles. I also wanted to experience first hand differences in this guitar with this 'vintage-style' steel bridge recommended by sites devoted to strat issues. Here are my comments:

1) Poor finish on the parts, visually not fitting a 'fine' instrument. Saddle edges rough, bent (shear cut artefacts) - see 2nd product photo Genuine Fender Replacement Saddles For Stratocaster- you may find a bit worse than that too. I consider it cheaply made, wherever it was.

2) This bridge block is 1.700" high, whereas my original bridge block is 1.620". Unfortunately, on my old guitar, even though the new bridge block itself fits, after attaching the spring claws into the block all the way in, the back cover of the guitar is lifted up by 1/32" - so the new bridge doesn't fit in this guitars body (which has never been modified in any way, original finish). I fixed this by recessing the spring claws into the block with a Dremel tool.

The most important thing - the sound? Well, I think it *is* better! Basic sustain seems to be the same. It is the colour of the sound that may be a bit brighter, clearer - but I doubt you would notice this much difference in a 'live' band environment, especially if you use any effects (I don't)

So I give it just OK because of the above mechanical issues.

D'Addario EXL170-5TP Nickel Wound Bass Guitar Strings, Light, .045-.130, 2 Sets, Long Scale Review

There's no questioning D'Addario quality in my book, and this set is no exception. Only thing that bugged me is how bright they were when I first put them on. Any set of strings will have more treble when clean and new (as compared too, say, after a few weeks of playing), but these are *really* bright.

I can definitely recommend this somewhat light-gauge 5-string set to anyone who has truss rod issues, as I do, where the neck is slightly bowed such that your action is pretty high: these *should* cause less bowing than a .135 set.

The volume balance is also nice, BTW: my top string is nearly as loud as my bottom string, which often wasn't the case with other sets.

Last but not least: good price for two complete sets! Remember, you can never have enough strings, especially if you work the low-paying semi-pro circuit: when meeting other bands, nothing says "Hey dude, you got some cool bass lines" more sincerely than giving another player one of your spare sets.

I try different picks. I found this star pick "orange" at a Guitar Store laying flat on the cab. Didn't think much about it.I gave it a try. At first it felt weird holding it because of the star hole but, it really has it benefits. The pick doesn't move or have that shift when playing fast. Clayton Picks PKL Guitar Pick Review

This slide has a truly awesome tone to it, the sweetest I have yet to play. It does feel quite bulky at first as it is made from very thick, dense ceramic, but if you have good technique you'll get used to it fast. I normally wear my slide on the pinky finger, but this one due to its girth and weight feels and seems to play much better when worn on the ring finger. The star pattern used on the inside adds grip without being hot (a worry I had initially given the size.) While quality glass will likely always be my preferred material, this slide is seeing much more use than any other ceramic or metal slide in my collection. I would definitely recommend this product to others looking for an awesome sounding slide, and I will most certainly be giving the other slides offered by Clayton a closer look. I'm impressed, and that's something I rarely say any more; definitely a 5 star product.

Elixir Nanoweb Anti-Rust Electric 7-String 10-56 12057 Review

I love elixir strings. Especially on my acoustic(Phosphor Bronze Lights are the shizzz). I bought these to see if the same tone and longevity that I got from my acoustic could transfer to my Ibanez 7620. For the most part. Yes. The tone great. I love how long these strings last and they bend quite well. I don't mind the coating shred around the pickup area that some don't like with coated strings. As long as it's not happening on the fretboard I am a happy camper.

My only gripe with most 7 string sets is their low B string is never the right tension. The Low B is a 56 in this set. D addario sells a 59 for their Low B. The 56 is a little too floppy for any kind of metal or even Jazz play. I feel that most string companies also do this too, not just Elixir so I assume they are just following suit.

If you don't mind that the 56 will not be as tight as it should be(IMO) then totally go for this set. If not then get yourself a set of D Addario 10-59s or just a single 59 and a box of 6 String Elixir(10-46) Nanoweb Coating. That should hold you over till someone figures out the right tensions for 7-8 string sets.
