Dunlop Big Stubby Picks, 3.0mm Review

Dunlop's 475 Big Stubby 3.0MM (the purple pick) is astounding. It has an indentation so the pick doesn't go out of position. The pick is light AND hard for perfect string control. When you strum a string, whether it be on a bass or a regular guitar, the string moves, not the pick and the string. The pick is tapered at the tip..again, very helpful in note control. What else..oh, I read in a Musiciansfriend review that this pick will break guitar strings. I imagine it will..if you are a gorilla. Then again, if you are a gorilla, your banana will break guitar strings. My gramma has gone to God. But if she was still here on earth, I would send her Big Stubby 3.0's for Christmas. (And she doesn't even play!)

Fishman Loudbox Mini Acoustic Instrument Amplifier Review

This is a great little amp, and surprisingly powerful. It's very clean sounding, like the more expensive Fishman amps, but still quite small. I've played an outdoor picnic and at church with it so far, using a mid size Martin guitar and SM58, and I'm very pleased with the purchase. Definitely the best acoustic amp on the market for the money IMO.

The product arrived within a few days of making the order; which I was surprised and happy about. I have a black guitar; so it would have been helpful to know that the case was a dark chocolate brown-- instead of a matching black-- but I didn't ask (I had assumed it was black), so I figure that is more my fault, than the company's. The case itself fit my Takamine EG341SC without any difficulty. The material inside was soft and clean, and the pocket for extras was nice and spacious. My only real complaint is probably the glue job on the lining. I don't think you should be able to see the glue job or edges of the fabric coming up on the first day of having the case; but it wasn't enough of a problem for me to go through the hassle of sending the case back. All in all, it does the job I need it to do; so I guess that's good enough for me.

Clean: gorgeous sustain, tight lows, rich harmonics from upper mids and above to swirling 3D chime.

Overdriven: lows stay tight but get deeper, mids smoothly saturate with very dirty blues/classic rock friendly compression, and the chimey highs inspire! Just gorgeous!

D'Addario EJ14 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings, Light Top/Medium Bottom/Bluegrass, 12-56 Review

I've been using D'addario phosphor bronze strings for years, they are nice but these sound way better. These strings give that brilliant and sparkly tone heard on many recordings of famous acoustic instrumental players like Don Ross, Hedges, etc..

I always wondered how they got that bright and full tone while playing fingerstyle, I always thought it was due to higher quality woods on their guitars or something but now I am certain that it has a lot to do with using real bronze strings rather than phosphor bronze.

Of course, their brilliant tone does come with a cost.. the reason they add phosphorous to phosphor bronze strings is because it strengthens the alloy and adds corrosion resistance. So these strings will lose their tone much faster as they stretch easier and are more prone to corrosion from sweat and grime. Also I haven't been able to find these in the bulk packs like the phosphor bronze which raises the price somewhat.

That said, its worth the cost and the hassle in my opinion.. makes me wish my acoustic had locking tuners for easier string changes like my electric guitars do =)
