Kyser 6/12Stg Humidifier Review

I like to keep my Martin in a stand & out of the case for a couple weeks at a time, but I live in an exceptionally dry climate. So I need some kind of humidifier installed when not in use. The advantage of the Kyser of course is it plugs the sound hole, and keeps the moisture circulating inside the body, whereas other humidifiers like the Planet Waves and Dampits leave most of the sound hole open to the dry air. For that reason I highly recommend the Kyser as an "in the stand" humidifer.

Now as far as the case goes, I use a Planet Wave. because it doesn't touch to wood at all. The Kyser does, and it is for this reason I wouldn't install it when my guitar was in the case.

As many others have pointed out on the Net, for some reason this humidifier has a plastic ring mounted around it's soft body. I don't see any purpose for it, and in virtually every review I've read, people complain that this ring scratched their soundhole. Not good. So remove the plastic ring.

Note - I also only mount one side of the humidifier in the sound hole. Its much eaiser to remove this way, and still effectively seals most of the sound hole.

Great pick. Dunlop really has a good product. The feeling of it isn't too slippery as some would say. The issue I have with it is it doesn't last as long as the older versions of the same pick have. So just be aware that these may not last as long as you're used to.

It was inexpensive, but I wish I had sprung for a few more dollars to try a different capo. It is difficult to take on an off. It needs lots of adjustment and sometimes does not hold down the top and bottom E strings all that well. It needs adjustments up and down the neck and when moved to a different guitar. It you don't need a capo all that often and not for live performance, then this will be OK. Otherwise, look for something better.

This slide is functional, but it has no weight. It feels like it's made from plastic and it's very light, which seems to cause a lack of tonal quality. I do like that it is actually a "Pinky" slide and you don't have to wear it on your middle finger, but it could use a little more weight. I used to have a pinky slide from back in the day (disappeared from the top of my amp one night) and the Johnny Winter pinky slide is the first I've seen in some time. Just wish it was a little heavier.

To give you some perspective, I bought an Ibanez GSR-200 bass at a sketchy pawn shop in Revere, MA for $80. Not an expensive bass, but I'm not one to want to leave my guitars out in the open at the risk of getting knocked over or damaged. Basically, I needed an inexpensive gig bag to protect this guitar when it was put away (under the bed). I have to say that I was impressed by the build quality and features of this cheap little bag. It is made of nice thick canvas, the stitching seems tight and solid, and it has just enough padding so that the bag is not too bulky but will protect any instrument that you put in it as long as you aren't banging it around. It has a nice deep front pocket, and double straps on the back so you could carry it like a backpack if you needed to. All in all you really can't go wrong here.

Gruv Gear FretWraps String Muters (3-Pack) Large Review

I bought these to deaden the sound of the strings behind the nut, a sound that became noticable on two of my guitars when playing high gain, palm muted riffs.

I contacted Gruv Gear, asking if the wraps would work behind the nut as well as they work in their 'normal' application on the fretboard (where they deaden the 'speaking' portion of the strings). They emailed back immediately, telling me that the wraps work for both applications.

So, I ordered, received, installed, and couldn't be happier. I place the wrap just behind the nut. The material of the wrap, and pressure on the strings, successfully mutes the unwanted behind-the-nut sounds.

If you play high gain muted riffs, and notice strange harmonics and junk happening even when you've deadened the strings with your hands, you may be suffering from behind-the-nut junk. Give Fret Wraps a try. Great product!

p.s. The Large Fret Wrap works just fine on my seven string guitars.

Great fast delivery. The case is plush inside and it fits the Dot like a glove. Heavy. Strong. Inside storage for accessories. In an ironic twist, the case arrived at my door in three layers of protection: an Amazon box with paper packing; a Epiphone box with corrugated supports; and a thick plastic wrapper. Too bad the people making the case weren't as careful. The case has a couple of light scrapes and a couple of dings on the outside. Certainly not the result of shipping. Ok, it is a "case" that will get abuse protecting the Dot. The philosophical question is: who has the privilege of the first ding, the manufacturer or the purchaser? If the manufacturer elects to abuse the case before it's sent, then packaging it as if it were fine china seems to be a little overkill. Just slap a UPS label on the handle and throw it in the back of the truck. This case is closed.
