The standard wisdom for many years has been that all attempts to create a pedal with a spring reverb effect have been failures. "Don't even bother-you need a Fender Reverb amp-PERIOD." I've tried a few pedals over the years-Boss included-and had to agree. I've always felt that this was a major handicap to using all sorts of very cool (and less heavy) vintage amps with no on-board reverb-at least if you loved reverb as much as I do. I'll make this short-THIS PEDAL IS AMAZING. I just got mine, and I A/B-ed it with my Fender Deluxe Reverb. The Boss pedal can match the sound on my Deluxe-and get considerably "wetter" too! It's just uncanny how the Boss '63 gets that clanging, crashing spring reverb sound, and how it responds to your guitar input just like the real thing. Only non-positive that I noted was that if you turn the Tone & Dwell controls way up high your amp will start to feed back. I am not sure that the really extreme settings are usuable without feedback. However, this is NOT a problem for me as the moderate settings provide PLENTY of authentic "wet" reverb sounds-more than I need or will probably use. I'm excited about the prospect of playing some smaller venues with a light vintage amp with no onboard reverb. RECOMMENDED.
