The Xotic EP Booster is a discrete FET preamp pedal with a low impedance output. The EP Booster was based around the classic preamp side of an Echoplex and produces a shimmering boost tone that adds some high end sparkle and definition. The Xotic EP Booster features up to 20db of gain on tap and two internal DIP switches to customize the boost. One is a Bass Boost and the other is a Bright switch. The default setting is Bright on/Bass Boost off. This provides extra sparkle for the darker sounding instruments and is great for that extra edge or shimmer. The Bass Boost adds just the right amount of low end for single coils to keep up. By turning off the Bright Switch you can get a full frequency boost that is transparent and gives you back what you put into it. Xotic EP Booster Mini EQ Effect Pedal Review

I bought this pedal a two months ago mainly for use in the studio. I have used it on a quiet a few sessions so far and absolutely love what this pedal does for my tone. I would not buy this pedal if you were expecting it to only be a squeaky clean machine. In my opinion this pedal is a warming and thickening booster. I basically keep it on all of the time. If you turn on the pedal your amp will get louder, even at it's lowest setting. If (without the pedal) I turn the volume knob of a given amp up louder, I will not get the same sound as I would using the EP Booster. As you probably know...the EP Booster derived from the preamp section of an Echoplex. Most of the time I use the pedal after my Overdrive/Distortion pedals. I love the way it enlarges/thickens and cleans things up that way. If I use the pedal before my Overdrive pedals I still dig the sound, however I feel that it pushes more the sound of the Overdrive in front of it and I hear the EP Booster's effect slightly less. I would and have recommended this pedal to other studio cats and fellow musicians. It's a great deal for a small box that brings so much to the table. I play pop, rock, blues, country and jazz... and find it very effective for all of these styles. Just a little side not. I personally never really turn up the booster past about 2-3 O'clock. I found that I became slightly too aggressive for what I wanted to use it for (maybe that's because of the way it's pushing the amp????).
